Alex Caruso's Jersey Number Change Denied

Caruso Wanted to Honor Bill Russell

NBA Rules Prohibit Number Change

Chicago Bulls guard Alex Caruso had planned to change his jersey number to 6 in honor of the late Bill Russell, but the NBA has denied his request.

Caruso, who normally wears number 4, chose 6 with the Bulls because his usual number had been retired by the team in honor of Jerry Sloan.

However, when the NBA announced its list of the 75 greatest players in league history, Caruso's jersey number was among those included. This means that he is not allowed to change his number, even if it is to honor a player who is considered to be one of the greatest of all time.

Caruso said he was disappointed by the NBA's decision, but he understands the league's policy.

"I think it's a great honor to be included on the NBA's list of the 75 greatest players," Caruso said. "But I also think it's important to honor the legacy of Bill Russell. He was a pioneer for the game of basketball, and I would have been proud to wear his number."
